What do Irish Rare Breeds do?

Monitoring

Each year, our dedicated staff travels the country collecting genetics from breed societies and individuals to monitor the numbers and progress of our breeding programs. Using this data, we compile a watch list.

Genetic Conservation

We sample animals. We have a network of dedicated breeds who take in particular animals if they are identified as being both native and endangered.

We are in the process of developing a genetic bank. With the proper support and funding, we will collect semen and embryos as a fail-safe should a particular breed become extinct.
